Historical Background of the Kwara State Ministry of Lands and Housing
Kwara state was created in 1967 out of the former Northern Region. Among the ministries created to facilitate civil governance was the Ministry of Works and Surveys, which was acarry-over from the Northern Region. The ministry had undergone series of name change from succeeding administration in the State as shown hereunder:

Statutory Functions of the Ministry of Lands and housing
The Ministry of Lands and housing, is in charged with the responsibility of implementing the provisions of the Land Use Act of 1978. These are principally geared towards the provision of access to lands for the provision of Housing, which is vital to human existence.
The Ministry is responsible for the management of urban lands as well as coordinating the use of non-urban of rural lands. Specifically, it performs the following major schedules:
- Provision of residential, commercial, industrial and other relevant layout
- Preparation of physical development plans
- Surveying and mapping
- Processing the Statutory Land titles, which extend to subsequent transaction that may arise there from
- Advising Government on housing Land policies
- Design and supervision of Government building project
- Other activities that are geared towards the implementation of the National Land Housing policies
